Up to 90 per cent of the paper fibre in a disposable cup can be recovered, thanks to a special upcycling process in which the fresh fibre pulp is separated from the PE plastic coating (polyethylene).
RAW MATERIAL: Paper cups made of FSC®-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) fresh fibre cardboard with PE plastic coating (polyethylene).
RETURN: A steadily growing alliance of companies, system caterers, vending specialists, associations and municipalities is in the process of establishing a permanent, nationwide collection system for used disposable paper cups in public spaces, as well as within companies and system catering.
COLLECTION BY TYPE: In a first step, it has been possible to win over the user group listed under "Return" to consistently collect cups in an organised manner within their shops and premises - or even in public spaces.
COLLECTION: The used cups are collected by IGEPA, an It's Your Part partner.
RECYCLING: In the further recycling process, the paper fibre recovered from the cups is processed into high-quality recycled graphic paper with the addition of waste paper. In keeping with its origins, this new paper is called "CoffeeCup Paper".
FINAL PRODUCT: "CoffeeCup Paper" is available throughout Europe and is distributed by IGEPA Großhandel GmbH.
