Managing directors of PAPSTAR GmbH with equal rights since the beginning of the year: Bert and Tom Kantelberg. Father and son have already been acting in an identical constellation at RICK Produktion GmbH, a company based in Schleiden-Olef that belongs to the PAPSTAR Group, since May 2020.
PAPSTAR has at an early stage set the course for a successful future by initiating succession arrangements for the planned departure of Managing Director Bert Kantelberg at the end of the year. By unanimous shareholder resolution of PAPSTAR Holding AG, Tom Kantelberg has with immediate effect been appointed joint Managing Director of PAPSTAR GmbH, which is based in Kall, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Since 1 May 2020 father and son have been acting in a similar capacity as joint managing directors of RICK Produktion GmbH, a company based in Schleiden-Olef which was established by father-in-law and grandfather Clemens Rick († 2012), and in which the PAPSTAR Group holds a majority stake.
Four decades of PAPSTAR
"My wife Susanne and I are very happy and proud that our son Tom will be the third generation to take the successful development of PAPSTAR into its hands and continue to push it forward" says Bert Kantelberg, who in February will be able to look back on four decades in management positions: "You have to be able to let go, hand over areas of responsibility and then also trust in the abilities of your successors. That's how something like this can function seamlessly," says the 65-year-old member of the PAPSTAR Holding AG board.
Decisions by consensus
For some time now 32-year-old Tom Kantelberg has been considered a natural choice as successor to the role of managing director at PAPSTAR GmbH. Not least as Chief Coordinator of the PAPSTAR Production Group he has long been highly familiar with every aspect of PAPSTAR's strategic orientation. "I'm very lucky that my father gives me a free hand. It’s important that in the end we stand together behind all our decisions, even if there are sometimes heated arguments in advance," says the business graduate, who attaches a great deal of importance to his father’s advice. After an apprenticeship at Papierfabrik Niederauer Mühle GmbH, Tom Kantelberg went on to obtain a B.A. in General Management and an M.Sc. in Sales Management from the CBS International Business School and the FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Management.
