To act responsible in terms of the society demands among economical objectives also the consideration of social and ecological value in thinking and acting. This integrated and holistic projection, to conciliate economics and ecology, is an essential part of PAPSTARs corporate culture and deep-seated in our daily business.
This appears in the consistent review of our business processes regarding ecological criteria. So PAPSTAR does not only have a quality management system (ISO 9001) but has also implemented an environment management system (ISO 14001) and is certified by internationally accepted standards.
Particularly the use of renewable raw materials for our products themselves is an important aspect of our holistic approach since the foundation of our enterprise more than 130 years ago. Out of this effort a wide assortment of disposables is grown. With immediate effect this assortment is offered branded with the new and enticing trademark PAPSTAR pure.
From spin-off to main product
Additionally to plates and dishes made of fresh-fibre paperboard, PAPSTAR is also distributing such articles made of sugar cane. Sugar cane as a perennial grass of the genus Saccharum is the most important raw-material supplier for the production of table sugar (saccharose) and was the only resource until the culture of sugar-beet in the middle of the 18th century.
In mills raw sugar is extracted from freshly harvested cane. As a spin-off, the so-called ”bagasse“ is remaining. Due to its high concentration of cellulose, this bagasse is used for the production of the plates and bowls. For this purpose, the bagasse is washed, chopped, and processed with water to a homogeneous pulp which is moulded into the various plate and dish shapes.The sugar cane plates and bowls are very solid and suitable for microwaves. Additionally the sugar cane products are completely biodegradable and compostable.
